Not just be able to look them up in a reference guide but to have the skills to be able to decipher beetles from plants bugs and moth larvae from sawflies right on the fly (so to speak)? We are offering a very special workshop this year for the first time and I wanted you to be aware of it in case it was in line with some of the professional goals you set to increase your technical expertise in IPM for Woody Plants.

 “Field Entomology for Arborists”

Tuesday, July 31 – Thursday, 2 August 

2 full days; Arrival 6pm/Depart 6pm. 

@ Queen’s University Biological Research Station (North of Kingston)

This is a unique opportunity. An ALL-INCLUSIVE, TWO-day IMMERSION style field course led by local experts in Entomology and IPM. This field course is designed for professionals working with woody plants in arboriculture and horticulture. Filled with interactive activities designed to sharpen your scouting and identification skills, this field course will set the foundation for you to build your detection and ID skills for several types of insects found on and around trees and shrubs.

The workshop will take place in the tranquil, natural learning environment of the Queens University Biological Research Station (just north of Kingston).


Motivated by their contagious passion for learning, Marvin Gunderman, Jen Llewellyn and Dave Cheung will lead the workshop in an inspiring, engaging, team-building style filled with practical learning opportunities and humour.   CEU’s will be available.
