Japanese Beetle (Popillia japonica) adults consume foliage and flowers of several of our beloved ornamental trees and shrubs each summer.
This year, it’s going to be DIFFERENT.
These shiny green and copper beetles can be a sore sight in July and August, feeding on grape leaves, roses and many other trees and shrubs. This year, a new biological insecticide is available for managing both the larval and adult stages of Japanese Beetle.
BeetleGone (liquid for the adult and grub stage) and GrubGone (granular for the larval stage) contain a naturally occurring bacteria (Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. galleriae). You may be familiar with other products that contain B.t. (e.g. Dipel, Bioprotec, Xentari) that we use for moth larvae. B.t. G is just as lethal to beetles.
SPRAY Foliar adult beetles include: Asiatic garden beetle (Maladera castanea) Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) Oriental beetle (Anomala orientalis) Rose chafer (Macrodactylus subspinosus).
DRENCH Soil dwelling larval stage beetles include: Asiatic garden beetle (Maladera castanea) European chafer (Amphimallon majalis) Green June beetle (Cotinis nitida) Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) May or June beetles (Phyllophaga spp.) Northern masked chafer (Cyclocephala borealis) Oriental beetle (Anomala orientalis) Southern masked chafer (Cyclocephala lurida).
This new biological insecticide is now available.
